My Los Angeles Life, A Mid-Summer Update

It’s been over one month since I last posted. I’ve moved back into my little apartment and have continued to focus on “the 9 to 5”. Aside from work in urban planning, I recently became an auntie again! Yay! Also, I finally started trail running again and have been exploring various trails throughout the Los Angeles area. And, I am happy to report that I have not been disappointed.

The Beverly Hills Studio Apartment

So, let’s start with the apartment– it is small, but affordable and cozy. I eventually want to move closer to work, but for now, that will have to wait! I actually looked around a bit earlier this month, mostly in the Mid-Wilshire and SilverLake areas, but eventually decided that it takes much more energy than I care to put into it at the moment… Also, it will be very difficult to find anything cheaper, even with a roommate! My location is pretty awesome though, and Justin Bieber is my neighbor, so I really can’t complain. Haha. And I am not a Belieber!

I’m An Auntie Again!

The newest member of our family, little baby Jared, was born on July 3rd! It was a quick delivery and we are all so blessed and happy to have him. Needless to say, it’s a lot of work for my brother and sister-in-law, but I hope they can handle it with extra help from family! Little Jared actually got an infection this week, so he had to go back into the hospital for antibiotics and testing. We are all praying that it is nothing serious, and thankful that he has received immediate medical attention in the last week. I’ll be hoping to visit and babysit both of my nephews at least once a week. I also had the pleasure of watching my nieces perform in their international drum corps group. They’ve got this great latin / salsa sound that makes them stand out from the other, more traditional drum corps groups. That said, they are all talented and entertaining!

Trail Running in Los Angeles 🙂

My boss recently challenged me to sign up to run the 2014 Bull Dog Race coming up at the end of August. It’s a 30K trail run held up in Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas, California. I sort of signed up without thinking about it too much, since I was looking for any excuse to get back in shapte, and for inspiration to start up trail running again, specifically. I tried it during the last few months I was in Barcelona, and absolutely loved it. And so, earlier this month, I finally started training. I have logged my share of miles, hitting up Fryman Canyon, Griffith Park, Chino Hills State Park, and Juanita Cooke Trail in Fullerton for hikes and jogs. I’ve been focusing on three things: Elevation  training, heat training and distance training… And well, trying to be consistent going running about three times a week. All of the pics below are from Griffith Park a few days ago! Oh, and I’ve started up (hot) yoga again. Hoping to keep up that habit at least twice a week. (I first tried hot yoga in Kyoto, Japan, and regular yoga in New Delhi, India, and enjoyed both, especially hot yoga!) I’m digging my current yoga place!

So, I’m keeping busy, and the summer is progressing! More to come soon… I’ve totally been wanting to post more detailed stories on so many things– from shopping, to juicing, to donuts, to hiking in L.A., to real estate and urban planning, oh and on dating, but have been so busy lately with work, family, friends, etc. Hope to keep posting at least a few times a month, folks! Have a great Monday! 🙂
